Obituary For Robert G. Bathe

March 7, 1925 - May 5, 2018

Bathe, Robert G. "Bob" Age 93, on Saturday, May 5, 2018, of Whitehall.

Born on March 7, 1925, in McKeesport, he is the son of the late William and Edith (Speelman) Bathe. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of the late Geri (Miller) Bathe; loving father of five children - Alan (Phyllis) of Whitehall, Nancy (David) Mossman of O'Hara Township, Marilyn (William) Standley of Connequenessing Township, Laney (Kirk) Kreisher of Spring Mills and Carol Bathe of Wilkins Township; proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother of the late William Bathe of White Oak and Harry Bathe of Cincinnati, Ohio; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Bob graduated from McKeesport High School in 1942. Following three years of Army service during World War II, he received his Business of Administration degree from Duquesne University in 1949, and was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation for 34 years, mostly in the corporate general office, before retiring as Manager of Accounting in 1983. He enjoyed all sports, particularly playing golf, traveling extensively, and doing many of his handyman projects for family and friends. He was outgoing and friendly to everyone who knew him. There will be no visitation. Burial will be private. In celebration of Bob's life, family and friends will gather Saturday, May 26th from 4-7 p.m. at Salvatore's, 5001 Curry Road. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements handled by the John F.     My deepest sympathy to his family. I was Bobâ??s secretary for many years at USS. He was always such a gentleman and a great boss.

    Bob will be greatly missed. He was a joyful person with a great sense of humor. I was in awe of how he could remember the plays and actors at South Park Theater, which he enjoyed so much.

    We were so honored and blessed to have known Bob for the last 5 years while living in Steeplechase. When we moved on the same street, two houses from his, we noticed garden stakes made from vintage teapots and teacups placed in neighbors back yards and around Steeplechase grounds. Where did these come from was my question to my neighbor and their response was Bob made them, heâ??ll make one for you too. Soon, I got a â??helloâ?? from Bob who was holding a box of teapots and teacups and instructed me to pick one of each so he can make me a set for my back yard. I put them out every year. He was a gentle, polite and always with a smile man who will be missed greatly by us. He always found time to stop and say hello to us while driving up the street or stop to pet Sophie, our Golden when in the back yard. It was only five years that weâ??ve known Bob, but what he showed us with his smile we will treasure forever. Thank you Bob for being a good neighbor and friend. Den and Steffie
