April 25, 1930 - April 25, 2018 Tinder, Robert James (S.O.B. - Sweet Old Bob) died April 25, 2018 exactly at the age of 88. He is survived by Gerry his adoring wife of 66 years; loving father of Susan and James; grandfather of Chris and Jesse; brother of Cecil (Anne) Tinder. He was born and raised in Richmond, VA, graduated from VPI with an electrical engineering degree, joined the ROTC for the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Upon return to the US, he took a job with Westinghouse in the nuclear division. He had the honor to be part of the design and construction of the Skipjack submarine, one of the first nuclear powered submarines built in the world. He subsequently worked on the development of the fast breeder nuclear reactor, later living in Tokyo, Japan for three years on loan to the department of energy. He loved outdoor athletics, tennis, golf, skiing in the winter and summer and he could repair almost anything. Above all, Bob was a man of principle who thought our reason for being was to help others, be useful and contribute. The Tinder family will receive friends and family in the Parlor at Baldwin Community United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from noon until 1:30 p.m.at which time a memorial service will be held.
