Obituary For Ronald E. Fox, Sr.

July 10, 1925 - February 24, 2015

Fox, Sr., Ronald E. Age 89, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nora (Coyne) Fox, and siblings, James and Norman Fox and Dorothy Stuart. Mr. Fox is survived by his three children, Jennifer Fox (William) Rabold, Ronald E., Jr. (Beverly) and Richard D. Fox; grandchildren, Christopher (Kerry) Rabold, Michael (Valerie) Fox, Lisa (Mark) Caruso, Brian Fox, Megan Fox and Daniel Fox; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Fox served in the US Naval Amphibious Forces LST/LCT in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired as an engineer from Conrail after 40 years, after which he continued to run the trains at the Carnegie Science Center for 13 years. He was a part-time school bus driver for St. Canice School during the 1960's. Never one to pass a motorist in need, he was also an expert auto mechanic who worked weekends at Boron stations around the city. In his later years, he became an active member of the LCT Flotillas of WWII, attended numerous reunions and raised funds to erect the LCT Flotillas plaque at the National Navy Memorial. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, Sunday from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Sylvester Church at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by burial in South Side Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Pressley Ridge, 5500 Corporate Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15237 or Brentwood VFW Post 1810, 3801 Saw Mill Run Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15227.
