December 2, 1942 - January 23, 2016following was written by the four Reid children in remembrance of their father Ron: On the morning of January 23rd our father, Ronald Henry Reid of Pittsburgh, PA, died unexpectedly in Park City, Utah at the age of 73 while at The Sundance Film Festival with family. He is survived by his wife Irene; his four children Jessica Jannenga, Timothy Reid, Suzannah Eilmes and Matthew Reid; their spouses Roy Jannenga, Michelle Reid, Jeff Eilmes and Shannon Yunn; three grandchildren Corey Reid, Tyler Smiley and Makaila Eilmes; and sister Geraldine Killeen and nieces and nephew. Dad was born on December 2nd, 1942 in Pittsburgh, PA to Henry and Marie Reid. He grew up in Dormont with his sister Geraldine Marie. He was part of the first graduating class at South Hills Catholic in 1961 (now Seton La Salle) and then he graduated from Duquesne University in 1966 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education. But the degree wasn't the most important thing that Dad left Duquesne with. His greatest accomplishment at Duquesne was meeting Irene Maynosz when they were student teaching at South Hills High School. They dated for 2 years and were married in 1967 in Pittsburgh. It was only a year later when Mom and Dad became parents for the first time with baby Jessica Ann, three years later Timothy James was born followed by Suzannah Hope only three years after. In 1981, our brother Matthew David was born to complete our immediate family. Our father worked for the City of Pittsburgh as an English teacher for many years. Later in his career he earned his Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh and became a teacher for the visually impaired. He also spent 15 years as a Port Authority bus driver with routes that would often pass right by our house. While he enjoyed his work, his family was his life. He and mom did everything together and love was abound. He loved his family dearly, enjoyed family gatherings and traveling to see all of us in the states of New York, Washington D.C. and North Carolina. Dad certainly loved to visit Charlotte where his two daughters lived. He was shown the wine bars of the region, where Reisling was his favorite. Dad was a master at remembering jokes and we enjoyed hearing them even after hearing the same ones over and again. He loved visiting different restaurants with us and we all showed him our favorite places. Dad had a great sense of humor. When something exceptionally funny would happen, he would display his uncontrollable hyena style laugh which would just make everyone laugh even more. One of our fondest memories was going to Disney World as young children, dad driving 24 hours behind the wheel, playing his favorite songs of the moment Air Supply's "Nothing at All " and Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll." We actually think that those were the only 2 songs recorded for the trip. Later in life, he was blessed with three Grandchildren, Corey, Tyler and Makaila. He brought such joy to his grandchildren and his grandchildren brought such joy to him. Some of his biggest smiles could be seen when he saw their faces. Dad was also an avid sports fan with the Steelers and Notre Dame football as his passions. The Steelers won six Superbowls and Notre Dame won eight National Titles during his life-time. Dad was also a witness to the greatest play in football history, the Immaculate Reception! He was a security guard at Three Rivers Stadium that day. Dad was always early to bed except when the Steelers played at night! That is when dad became a night owl and would stay up until the game was over! His life was enriched by the great successes of the Pittsburgh sports teams and he said many times that we were incredibly lucky not to have been born in Cleveland. (Sorry Cleveland!!) He had a multitude of hobbies. He was an avid photographer and loved taking photos of both family and amazing landscapes. His great photography can be enjoyed online at http://rhreidphotography.wix.com/photography. He could also always be seen with a book to read in his hands, completing crossword puzzles, playing cards and listening to his favorite music such as the Clancy Brothers, Credence Clearwater Revival, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. He also was an early adopter of technology. He had the entire Apple ecosystem at his disposal consisting of the Apple Watch, Iphone 6 Plus, Ipad and Macbook Air. We're not quite sure what he was working on so diligently but we know it was REALLY BIG! Lastly, he was a very religious soul who kept God close to his heart. He was active in the church throughout his life, most recently at St Joan of Arc where he volunteered his time. We will miss you forever Dad, love the kids and grandkids. A viewing to celebrate is life will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.
