April 4, 1935 - March 15, 2018

Purcell, Rose A. (Glod) Age 82, on Thursday, March 15, 2018, after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease, of Baldwin Borough. Rose died peacefully surrounded by family. Rose was born April 4, 1935 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Kustwan) Glod. She was united in marriage to John J. "Jack" Purcell on November 22, 1956. Jack preceded her in death in 2013 after 56 years of loving marriage. Their love and devotion to each other and their family were the foundation of their life together. Mother of Kevin Purcell of Aliquippa, PA, Kim (Michael) McCalmont of Mason, OH, Tom (Susie) Purcell of Greensboro, NC, and Karen (Michael) Bell of Davidson, NC; grandmother of ten; great-grandmother of two; sister of JoAnn Balker and Barbara Volpe, and the late John Glod, Mary Franks, Antoinette Glod, Louise Frankola, and Frances Kernicky. A loving mother and homemaker, Rose enjoyed hosting family meals for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was everything to Rose, a hard-working, selfless, classy and beautiful woman. Rose found happiness in music, dancing, and above all, being silly with her grandchildren. In recent years, Rose lived in both North Carolina and Ohio to be closer to her children. Rose had an unwavering faith in God and was a long-time parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church, serving the church first as an employee, then as a volunteer, while raising her children. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Tuesday 3-7 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. The family welcomes donations to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund which targets breakthrough research.
