Obituary For Russell J. Gephart

August 28, 1924 - July 27, 2014

Gephart, Russell J. Age 89, on Sunday, July 27, 2014, of Whitehall.

Husband of Laverne (Trussell) Gephart; father of Cherylann (Roch) Kujava and James R. (Lori) Gephart; grandfather of Jennifer (Derek) Shaw, Brittany Gephart, Matthew Kujava and Cameron Gephart; also survived by his nieces and nephews. Russell was an usher for over 25 years at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church, a lifetime member and former Chaplain of the Elks, a member of VFW Post 1810, and served honorably in the US Navy during WWII as a Gunner's Mate Second Class. He belonged to the US LST Association and retired after 30 years in the plumbing and heating industry. He was an avid sports fan of the Steelers and Pirates. He was a manager of little league baseball where he served as vice president of the Brentwood Athletic Association. His family and faith were most important in his life. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of The Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 am.

    I have only recently come to know Russell's son, Jim Gephart, with whom I work at the SCORE Association in Herndon, VA. My condolences to Jim and the entire family.
