Obituary For Sally J. Frey

It is with deep sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sally Johnston Frey, on February 28, 2026.

Born on January 11, 1936, in Butler, Pennsylvania, Sally was the cherished daughter of Roe and Viola Johnston. She grew up in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania, alongside her four sisters - Vianne, Jeannine, Roene, and Nancy. A true country girl at heart, Sally carried with her throughout her life the warmth, kindness, and gentle humor that defined her early years. She had a gift for making others feel loved and at ease, and her laughter was a comfort to all who knew her.

Sally's strength was nothing short of inspiring. She faced life's challenges with courage and grace, overcoming breast cancer not once, but twice. Her resilience was a testament to her quiet determination and unwavering spirit.

She found great joy in the simple blessings of life - especially her beloved dogs and horses. The barn, the open air, and long walks with her dogs brought her peace and happiness. She formed many dear friendships through the horse community and among fellow dog walkers, bonds built on shared passions and genuine connection.

Above all, Sally's greatest joy was her family. Her love was boundless and steadfast. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and tenderness in her daughter Beth, her son-in-law Keith, her grandson John, and her precious great-granddaughters Addyson and Caroline. Each of them carries forward her kindness, strength, and sense of humor.

Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the countless memories she gave us - memories filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. We will miss her dearly, but her beautiful spirit will remain with us always.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services as the family grieves privately. There will be a private burial in Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania sometime in the early summer. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. Those who wish to honor her memory may consider a donation to breast cancer research or to an animal rescue organization of their choice. Her life was a gift to us all.

I'm saddened to learn of Sally's passing. She will always be a dear friend. We called her Aunt Sally even though she wasn't a true Aunt. We met in Mowry Park walking her dogs. She had Pepper, Taz and Lady ( I think) I had a Lhasa Apso Muffin. Sally would dog sit Muffin for me and Muffin loved her a lot. There was a group of us that walked our dogs together. I remember Sally telling me she had a horse who loved cherry lifesavers. I will miss my friend. I saw her not too long ago She loved my dog Stella Sally J Frey is now walking all the dogs in heaven. The water there won't have bones in the water!! I loved you Sally thank you for being a dear friend. Gretchen Steffen
