Obituary For Samuel Robert Paschel, Sr.

Age 82, of Brentwood Pennsylvania died peacefully on Saturday surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born on December 7, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA to Albert Paschel and Helen (Simmons) Paschel. His death was preceded by that of his younger brother Richard Paschel, his sister Phyllis (Paschel) Mamula, and his wife Marijane D. (Hesek) Paschel.

Sam served his country and saw the world as part of the US Navy, returning home to join his family following the passing of his brother Richard in 1966. He met his future wife and the love of his life, Marijane and her daughter Lynette later that same year. Shortly thereafter, his young family grew with the addition of their son, Samuel R. Paschel Junior. Sam and Marijane’s lifelong relationship was filled with love, understanding, laughter and tenderness. His dedication and affection for his wife was rivaled only by his unending love and support for his children.

Sam spent his career as a truck driver for various local Pittsburgh transportation companies. Late in his career, he was commissioned to open a trucking terminal for Mohawk Industries where he became a coach, mentor, and father figure to many of the drivers under his charge.

He enjoyed many, many things. Among them were old cars, construction projects, Sam Cooke, archery, Brentwood Highschool athletics, coconut cream pie, the beauty and awe of nature, bad diner food, raisin toast, the music of Motown, chocolate milk, a great story, road trips, and above all else, his family.

Sam is survived by his brother, Albert 'Bud' Paschel, his son Samuel R. Paschel Jr, and his son’s family including his grandchildren Sawyer and Wren. He is also survived by his daughter Lynette whose love and incredible care gave him comfort in his final years.

He was our teacher, he was our friend, he was our hero, he was our father, and he will be very dearly missed.

Friends and family will be received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, on Thursday October 10, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. and Friday October 11, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of his blessing service at 7:00 p.m., followed by a reception offsite.

To Sam, Lynette and family, I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing. He has always been a great neighbor, always willing to help, and always willing to chat with my parents when they were walking "down on the street". He will be missed. Praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time. Maria Garase
