Obituary For Shirley Ann Mosticone

Of Baldwin, PA, passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a tapestry of music, love, and memories on Friday, January 12, 2024.

She was surrounded in her last moments with music and prayer by her family and best friend, as well as the loving care of the Monarch Hospice team. She was the mother of Victoria Rhea (Frank Alvin) of Pittsburgh, PA and Keith Bauer (Kelly) of South Carolina; grandmother of four and great grandmother of three; sister of Donna Weeter (Allen) of Knox, PA. Shirley grew up in Clarion County, PA where she became an accomplished singer at a young age. Music was Shirley's muse, and her voice echoed with beauty and passion as a gifted choir singer at Zion Lutheran Church in Whitehall. Throughout her life, she sang at over 50 weddings and numerous funerals. Through her melodies, she conveyed emotions that touched hearts and uplifted spirits, creating a harmonious connection with the divine. Shirley's love extended beyond the church walls to the world of opera and the enchanting voice of Mario Lanza, both of which she held dear to her heart. Her lifelong goal was to sing for the Metropolitan Opera. In addition to music, reading and gardening, her many cats over the years brought much joy to her life. Shirley's life was a testament to resilience and numerous challenges. Her journey was illuminated by the unwavering friendship of Carol Dewalt, of Whitehall, her steadfast companion, confidante and caregiver who will hold her memory close. As we bid farewell to Shirley Mosticone, we celebrate the melodies she shared, the love she gave and the strength she embodied. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration, reminding us to find solace in music, love, and the enduring human spirit. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Zion Lutheran Church, 4301 Brownsville Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15227 at 11:00 a.m. Please meet at church. In lieu of flowers, Shirley's family suggests contributions to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
