Obituary For Stephen Frederick Brown

Age 69, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Born on January 13, 1955, to Norris and Mary (Karculas) Brown in North Brunswick, New Jersey.

Steve is survived by his wife, Deanna (Bird); daughter Caitlin and her husband Luke Aaron; daughter Natalie; brother Jonathan Brown; sister Tanis and her husband Frank Boskovich; nieces and nephews Bryan Boskovich and wife Autumn, Elizabeth (Boskovich) Barrett and husband Shawn; and five great-nephews. Steve is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Brian; and brother, David.

Steve moved to Pittsburgh after graduating from Waynesburg University and began his long career in healthcare management and administration in the Pittsburgh, Steubenville, and Wheeling areas. It was at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital that he met Deanna, and the two were married in 1994.

Steve had an ability to make everyone feel special, and was most comfortable behind the lens of his cameras, capturing the beauty and joy around him. He will be remembered for his joyful, generous, and kind nature. He taught us to laugh, to appreciate the small, precious moments in life, to take the pictures, and to love.

Steve will be missed by everyone that knew him and he will remain in our hearts forever. Those that knew Steve are asked to remember him in their own ways, and to share their memories of Steve with family and friends."

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering for Stephen on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.

He was a pleasure to work with in his role as a Hospital and practice manager, which is not something I can say for a lot of administrative people. He was always pleasant and appropriate and supportive of ideas for patient care. He was very supportive of physicians and staff, and was always pleasant and congenial. My condolences to his family and coworkers as I'm sure he will be miss greatly by all he touched. Kevin Wong, MD

My deepest condolences to Deanna, Caitlin, Natalie, and the entire family. Steve gave me my opportunities in Practice Management at Trinity Health System then again at Wheeling Hospital. The knowledge he shared with me was great as he loved teaching but it was his stories about trips to the island near Maine each year and capturing the nature pictures that I loved hearing about. He dearly loved Deanna and his girls. He would beam when he talked about them during our weekly meetings when we talked about family. Steve was first a boss, then a confidant, and for the past year after I fell on some tough times, a true friend. I miss him already. Steve Lauck

I am so sorry for your loss. Steve grew up down the street from me. I use to go with his dad and brothers to watch him play BB.

To the family, I am so saddened by the news. Steve was so pleasant to be around. He was so engaged in any conversation he had; so truly interested in what was being said! Your family has so many wonderful memories to hold onto. May he rest in peace. Love, Tee Oneill
