Obituary For Susanne Shialabba

Age 84, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

Her favorite moments were those spent with family, whether it be a family dinner, playing games, watching TV, babysitting her grandsons or vacationing (esp. in Atlantic City). She loved to entertain and enjoyed time with friends simply chatting, enjoying a meal, shopping or playing cards. Susanne had a great passion for baking and for cake decorating, something others were very glad she possessed. You could always rely on her cheeky sense of humor, her smile, her selflessness and her love. Everyone who knew Susanne, knew without a doubt, that they were loved.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 60 years, James; her children, Chris (Brian) Rostek and Ron (Tara) Shialabba; her grandchildren, Nick (Yasmeen), Carson, Elliot, Jessica (Tom), Joslyn (Eric); her great grandchildren, Aiden, Hudson and Reece as well as her sister in law, Irene, her many nieces and nephews and her friends.

A memorial service will be held in the John F. Slater Funeral Home Chapel, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. A reception will follow from 5-7 p.m. at the Whitehall House (adjacent to the funeral home). Susanne’s family along with her friend and caregiver, Mary, request that everyone forego the traditional black attire and brighten the service with pink, her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

One of the nicest people I've ever known, Sue befriended me when I worked with her at Giant Eagle. She was very hardworking, talented & always calm. We stayed friends for many years after, going out to eat, seeing movies or just talking on the phone. I last saw Sue a few years ago. We talked, had pizza & had a lovely time! I'm sad that Sue is gone, but glad her suffering is over. RIP, Sue, & see you on the other side

Chris and Ron, I'm so sorry. Even though we didn't stay in close touch in recent years, your mom meant a lot to me. She and I shared many good times together, and shared some unhappy times, too. I know she will still be by your side.

Ive recently talked to Aunt Sue and she was telling me the story of the first time she felt like she was part of a family unit, after her dad met my grandma. The pride and love I felt was overwhelming. Im so thankful our worlds collided. Im so thankful for your love. You will be forever missed.
