Hearn, Thomas A..

Age 90, on Thursday, February 20, 2014, of Baldwin Boro.

Beloved husband of 66 years to Anne H.(Topich); father of Georgianne (Edward) Bakosh of Temecula, CA, Robert M. "Noodles" of LaMesa, CA and the late Thomas A. "Chip" Jr.; grandfather of Brianne (Eric) Hunner, Thomas W. Hearn, Jill (Robert) Gray and Alyson Bakosh; great-grandfather of Blake, Dayna, Teague and Talin; brother of the late Jane and Roberta; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Tom served in WWII with the 24th Infantry in the campaigns at Luzon, New Guinea and Southern Philippines where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He remained active in various veteran organizations throughout his life, including lifetime member of VFW Post 1810, where he served as part of the Honor Guard, and was also a member of American Legion Post 712. He also belonged to The Ancient Order of Hibernians and the American Serbian Club. During his children's youth, he was active in Baldwin-Whitehall baseball programs. He retired from J&L Steel after 36 years as a Rigger, then worked for Baldwin Borough. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Sunday and Monday from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 pm. Funeral prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30, followed by interment in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's name may be made to either VFW Post 1810, 3801 Clairton Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15227 or Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
