Obituary For Timothy J. O'Brien

Age 82, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, November 20, 2025, of Bethel Park.

Beloved husband of Elaine O'Brien for 60 years; devoted father of Lori O'Brien, Mary (Dean) Huwe and Kelly (Mike) Strutt; Pappy of Katie (Bobby), Alyssa, Colton, Sami and Zack; Pappy O of Bridgette and Bryce; son of the late Edward and Dorothy O'Brien; brother of Edward "Denny" (Pat), Kathy (the late Michael) and the late Karen (the late Eddie, survived by Roy) and Terry (Tammy). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tim was a man of deep faith in God and one who never shied away from working hard to accomplish goals. A resident of Bethel Park for almost 50 years, he worked for over two years with no days off to save to build his forever home for his family. His wife, three daughters, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and the spouses who became part of his family were his greatest pride and joy. He loved taking family vacations and sharing all the adventures each trip brought. Tim loved to watch all Pittsburgh sports. He was often enjoying a Pirates, Penguins, or Steelers game on TV in his favorite recliner. Tim was a mechanic by trade and at heart. He could fix just about anything on cars and was the first to volunteer to help if anyone needed anything. He was renowned for his ability to quote year, make, and model of any car. Tim had a passion for driving, and his 1974 Corvette Stingray convertible was a prized possession. He was an avid NASCAR fan, with Dale Earnhardt being his favorite driver. Coin collecting became Tim’s most recent hobby and source of great interest and enjoyment. Storytelling was an art form for Tim, who could talk to anyone to share a great story and a good laugh. He carried little cards in his wallet with carefully written phone numbers to keep in touch with many people over the years. Tim loved his dogs, with Buddy being his current faithful sidekick. The two were staples in the front yard throwing a ball or watering the yard and flowers. Tim always had a friendly wave and hello for everyone.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:00. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine Labouré Parish, St. Joan of Arc Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.

My fondest memory of Tim O'Brien is his attendance Saturday morning at the Crafton garage with Harold George Hall faithfully each and every Saturday to repair modify improve or just have fun tinkering with old classic cars! Tim would always big quick with joke or story, always enhanced with a big Irish smile! I am sure he is now checking on some Heavenly Classic Rides, and will he will soon be Heaven's Chief Mechanic!
