Obituary For Vince G. Criswell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vincent Gerard Criswell, age 93, of The Villages, FL, formerly of Pittsburgh on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Loving husband of 73 years to Betty Jane (Barrett) Criswell. Devoted father of David (Vanessa), the late Douglas Criswell, Denise Haynes, the late Paul Criswell (Bonnie), Diane Bracken, Vincent, and Stephen (Susan).

Vince was a proud Pap Pap of 17 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Vince is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. Vince was brother to the late Mary Louise Felix, Virginia Joyce, John B. Criswell, and Paul J. Criswell.

Vince was an outstanding Chief Pilot for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation. Later in his career he was a pilot for LTV Steel Corporation and was also an FAA Air Carrier Inspector. As a teenager Vince had a love for aviation, watching the planes take off and land at Allegheny County Airport where he eventually started his career.

Vince and Betty enjoyed the “Happy Ours” boating with the kids. Waterskiing was always an adventure with the seven kids and Jingles the dog on the boat! Family camping trips in his Winnebago provided many treasured memories as well. Vince and Betty traveled the world with friends and family. During retirement years in The Villages, Vince and Betty were Eucharistic Ministers for St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church where Vince also served as a Lector. Vince enjoyed working on his projects in the Villages Wood Shop and was Treasurer of the Horse-N-Around Club. Vince and Betty also enjoyed entertaining guests and family in their lovely home. We all laughed at his many great jokes!

Vince was the best husband, father, grandfather and friend that anyone could have had. His legacy of kindness, selflessness and humor will be missed. Family and friends will miss him dearly. Fly high and know that you will live in our hearts forever.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 1-5 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his late son Paul Jerome Criswell’s Memorial Scholarship Fund “Honor Paul’s Legacy: Support Future Pilots.” The link to the fund is as follows: https://www.gofundme.com/f/honor-pauls-legacy-support-future-pilots
