A beautiful farm girl from Ashland, Virginia (born to Virginia Ellen Melton and Daniel Edward Lipscomb) met the man of her dreams (the late William McLean Walton who fondly referred to her as Maisy) at a USO dance. He scooped her up (literally) as she was walking through the door and from that day forward the rest was history. With the north connecting with the south, this belle was brought to Pittsburgh. Mae would then spend most of her life (71years) building a family and a life with many wonderful friends. She had an early career at Bell Telephone but spent most of her days as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. During time not spent with her family, she enjoyed participating in various groups and activities including bridge, book club, several bowling and golf leagues. She achieved every golfer’s dream and had a hole in one! The many friendships she created through these activities were so very precious to her. In addition to the life and relationships she built in Pittsburgh, Deep Creek Lake, Maryland played a huge role in her life. She was blessed to share with her children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren a wonderful community she and Billy Mac envisioned and worked endlessly to establish. She has watched all of them fall in love and treasure so deeply a beautiful place where her family will continue to gather, relax and enjoy for many years to come. At the lake there were many happy hours (cheers!), picnics and card games with good friends creating fun times and happy memories for her. In her free time, she loved to sew, knit, and crochet, sharing many invaluable works with her friends and family that will be treasured for years and generations to come, as well as making items for various charities. She was always strong in her faith and full of southern grace to the very end. In her 96 years of life she was a loving mother, Mimi and great-Mimi and is survived by all:three children Cheryl (James) Daley, Sharon (Ed) Huckestein and William (Holly) Walton; five grandchildren who adored her - Grant Huckestein, Matti (Eric) Moler, Bailey (Brandon) Umenhofer, Maclean (Sydney) Walton and Brian Daley; and five great granddaughters with whom she was blessed (who we refer to as The Spice Girls) Kinsley, Adalyn, Wren, Peyton and Alyssa. She was a wonderful sister and is survived by Paul Lipscomb (Candace) and preceded in death by John Lipscomb, Edith Glazebrook and Mary Ellen Hayden. Friends will be received at John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4048 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.
