Obituary For Walter Bernard Debski

January 31, 1927 - April 1, 2014

Debski, Walter Bernard

Age 87, of Jefferson Hills and former resident of Brentwood Borough for 42 years, died unexpectedly at home on April 1, 2014.

Beloved husband of the late Claire Barone; father of Glenn (Sandra Kirsch) and Walter (Marion Mullaney), of Garberville, California; son of the late Walter and Casmira (Zawadzki) Debski; brother of Robert Debski, Rose Krason, and the late Theresa Filip and Sr.M.Roberta Debski, of the Felician Sisters; brother-in-law of Rose Barone (William) Hirt, Robert Barone of Punxsutawney, William (Carolyn Winslow) Barone and Francis Barone, of California. Walter quit high school at age 17 to join the Navy and serve his country. He was stationed on the USS Vicksburg during World War II. His civilian working career spanned over 40 years at Allis-Chalmers in the North Side and Volkswagen of America in New Stanton. He was elected for one term as Brentwood Borough Tax Collector and was a photographer for the South Hills Record. Walter's true love was music and as an accomplished violin and bass fiddle player, he performed throughout Pittsburgh in the 50's and 60's. He loved being the center of attention and had an incredible gift for telling jokes and making people laugh. His devotion to the Catholic Church was an inspiration to us all. When he could no longer attend church in person, he attended daily mass, rosary and novena via television. But most of all, Walter was an incredible husband and father, and was devoted to his wife throughout her extended illness. His love and support will be sorely missed by his sons and daughters-in-law. His advice to us was to love everyone and to go to church. Finally, the family wishes to thank Mary Ann, our nurse and friend, for eleven years of loving care and support. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Church at 10:30 am.

To Walt's family, My family and I are so going to miss Pappy Walt. He was like family to us. As you know I visited Walt every other Monday to give him communion for over four years. When my grandson Noah was born I started bringing him with me and Walt adopted him like he was his own. I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful special relationship there was between Walt and Noah. Walt showered him with love and happiness and unknowingly Noah did the same for Walt Monday's are never going to be the same for us. Pappy Walt will always be near and dear to my heart. I can't even begin to express the love he had for the Lord and the love he shared for my whole family. I regret I will be out of town at the time of the funeral. Please know my heart reaches out to your family., With love and prayers. Steve, Jean, Krystal, Brad, Noah, Carol and A.J. . . .

Dear Sandy, I saw the obituary in today's Post-Gazette. Your father-in-law must have been quite a man. I'm sorry for your loss. Arthur Denberg (Ran into ScReather Presley at Home Depot in East Liberty yesterday. She said she got tired of staying home and has been working there part-time for 3 years.)
