October 12, 1920 - August 4, 2017 Died Friday, August 4, 2017. Dr. Wiest attended LaFayette College and Princeton Theological Seminary. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister. He enlisted in the navy during WWII and served as chaplain aboard the USS Ozark. After leaving active service in the navy he became academic dean at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Wiest began work on a Ph.D in philosophy from Columbia University, where he also held a position as counselor to Protestant students. In 1957 he joined the faculty of Western Theological Seminary, which later became Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He served at the seminary for 30 years as Professor of Philosophy of Religion. After his retirement in 1987 Dr. Wiest was active on the Human Relations Committee of Mt. Lebanon and the ethics committees at both Children's and St. Francis Hospitals. Dr. Wiest also wrote and edited a number of books and articles on ethics. Dr. Wiest is survived by his wife of 73 years, Elisabeth. They lived in Mt. Lebanon for 43 years before moving to Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair. He is also survived by four children, three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village on Sunday, August 13 at 4:00 PM.
