Obituary For William B. Shuma

December 11, 1974 - July 30, 2016

William Barrett Shuma, known to his family as Bill and to his friends as Will, passed away at age 41 on July 30, 2016 after a long battle with drug addiction. Despite fighting with everything he had, he was unable to escape the control that his condition had over him.

He had a deep love for those in his life, always seeing the best in everyone, standing by those in need, and always filled with hope for others. He was a loyal lifelong friend to his brothers in the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He possessed an extremely sharp intelligence and a keen sense of humor. He was a joy to be around.

There will be a ceremony at John F. Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Rd, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, August 3. Friends and family will be received from 10:00 to 11:00, followed by a brief celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Narcotics Anonymous or to the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society would be appreciated.

Billy was my childhood friend. We attended school and church together. We grew apart. May you rest in peace now Billy.

Bill was my very best friend growing up. Every day after school we hung out. Every summer day we'd ride our bikes around the Hills for miles and miles. We experienced so many ups and downs together, but Bill always found a way to make me laugh. Even when we were fighting, his insults brought a smile to my face through gritted teeth. He followed me to summer camp as a young kid. And I followed him to IUP after high school. Unfortunately, we grew apart after college and I lost touch with him over the years. He was far too young. RIP Bill Shuma, my old friend.

Bill was an amazing man friend and a loving brother. He truly loved his family his dogs and most importantly the Brotherhood of Kappa Sigma. I met bill for the first time when I was 18 and we both attended iup at the same time Bill was my big brother in Kappa Sigma fraternity. He taught me so much about the fraternity and so much about life he was more than a great friend he became a brother to me. I will sadly miss you my brother but I know one day we will be reunited may you be at peace and be with your mother and father God bless you brother. I love you brother. A.E.K.D.B.
