Obituary For William G. Vogt

June 1, 1931 - December 26, 2014

Vogt, William G. Age 83, of Baldwin Borough, passed unexpectedly on Friday, December 26, 2014.

Son of the late Michael J. and Isabelle M. (Daugherty) Vogt; beloved husband for 22 years of Josephine A. Saia; proud father of William B. (Suzanne) Vogt and Keith T. Vogt; loving Granddad of Christina, Acton, Bryce and Felicity Vogt; dear brother of the late Claire (Sal) Cavallaro and Jacqueline (Zack) Taylor and surviving sister Isabell (late Ralph) Eicker; beloved brother-in-law of Julie (late Tom) McCarthy, Katie (Stephen) Wider, Ben (Debbie) Saia, Adelaide (Frank) Saia and Rosie (John) Wider; loved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Bill retired in 1993 after a 31 year career as a professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. During his tenure he authored more than 120 publications and edited over 20 books. He traveled extensively, giving more than 50 invited lectures throughout the world, in addition to traveling for personal interests. With pride, Bill would tell families and friends, "I've been all over the world!" He served as a consultant with multiple companies and was a member of numerous engineering societies. Since June, 2014, Bill was a resident of Arden Courts Memory Care Facility in Jefferson Hills. During his stay he brightened the days of caregivers, residents and visitors by extending hearty greetings and cheers for any job well done. Bill retained his wonder for the beauty of nature and its wildlife. He especially enjoyed watching and feeding birds. His gentleness for living creatures was lifelong. Funeral services for Bill were held privately. The family suggests that friends wishing to contribute in Bill's memory could donate to the Arden Courts Staff Appreciation Fund, 480 Wray Large Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15025 or to the Brentwood Public Library, 3501 Brownsville Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15227. Arrangements entrusted to the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.
