Obituary For William J. Voelker

May 2, 1948 - August 21, 2014

Voelker, William J., age 66, of Pleasant Hills, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a courageous battle with ALS. Bill was the beloved and loving husband of Frances E. Voelker and the son of the late Mary and Robert Voelker. He was second father of 30 years to Karen (John) Reyher of Jefferson Hills and Jeffrey (Julie) Sousa of Atlanta, GA. He was cherished "PapBoo" to Adam and Rachel Reyher and Corey and Christian Sousa. Bill will be sorely missed by his siblings Robert (Sandra) Voelker, Paula (John) Lacher, Mary Ellen Voelker (Bob Brown), Nancy (Daryl) Snyder, Joseph (Frances) Voelker, James (Priscilla)Voelker, Gemma (Paul) Churik, and Sharon (Kevin) Phillips. Also much loved brother-in-law of Robert (Jacalyn) Kish and Sandra Kish. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and son Scott (Pam) Voelker and granddaughters Brooke and Bethany. Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam and the Color Guard of the Marine Barracks in Washington, D. C., including in the escort of President Eisenhower's funeral cortege. He was a longtime member of the Baldwin Kiwanis, where he was President and Treasurer for many years.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas A'Becket Church, on Gill Hall Road, at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. For those who wish, family suggests donations in Bill's memory to Forbes Hospice, Inpatient Unit at West Penn Hospital, 8th Floor, 4800 Friendship Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224 or the Western PA ALS Society, 416 Lincoln Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15209.
