Reasner, W. F., Jr.

Reasner, Willie Francis, Jr. died Sept. 13, 2016, after a year of declining health from cancer. He was 89. Bill was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Reading, Pa., to Ida (Shoff) and Willie F. Reasner Sr. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served in the Philippines and Japan at the end of World War II. He graduated from Reading High School and attended Penn State University on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1951 with a degree in civil engineering. He moved to Pittsburgh to work for Blaw-Knox, continuing his career as a structural engineer with Dravo Corp. He raised his family in Whitehall, and he had lived in the Shadyside-Oakland area for the past 30 years. An avid bridge player, he also was a longtime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Legion, and Baldwin Community United Methodist Church. He was pre-deceased by his wife Anna Marie and is survived by his sisters Holly Batz (Robert) of Richland, Pa., and Dawn Witycyak (Peter) of Reading, Pa.; his children Pamela Cutkosky (Mark) of Palo Alto, Calif., Chris Mattingly (Steve) of Fairfax Station, Va., and David Reasner (Margo) of Moultonborough, N.H.; his five grandchildren - Charlotte, Laura, Mason, Nicholas, and Douglas; and his longtime companion Colleen Bish of Pittsburgh and her daughter Jocelyn. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. A celebration of Bill's life will take place at 1 p.m. with a private burial to follow in Jefferson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society in his memory. Bill's family thanks the staffs of Schenley Gardens and Heartland Hospice for their many kindnesses.
