Obituary For Allan DePastino

October 11, 1939 - August 7, 2017

Passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 7, after almost 78 years of life. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Loretta, his brother, Ronald, and his wife, Bernice. Survived by sisters, Marlene and Carolyn, sons, Todd (Stephanie Ross) and Blake (Nancy), and grandchildren, Ellie, Libbie, Sofia, and Zane. We've lost a creative, joyful, and tenderhearted man with a disarming sense of humor and broad curiosity about the world. Raised in Wilkinsburg, Allan taught himself almost everything he knew, including his profession, Interior Design, and was working on Calculus from an old textbook in recent years. A meticulous craftsman and expert carpenter, he had savant-like perception of color and space and sketched as he thought. After grieving the loss of his beloved wife Bernice, Allan emerged from his workshop and discovered a new source of joy: people, including his friends at the JCC's exercise class and his special companion, Helen. We will celebrate Allan's life at noon on Saturday, August 19, in the Otterbein Room at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Rd., Bethel Park. Memorial donations may be directed to the Jewish Community Center, jccpgh.org, 345 Kane Blvd., Pgh, PA 15243 or to the Veterans Breakfast Club (Allan was a veteran of the Army National Guard), veteransbreakfastclub.com, 200 Magnolia Pl, Pgh, PA 15228. Arrangements made by John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.

As my mentor, Uncle Allan, taught me space planning & design! I admired him for his devotion and love for his wife, my Aunt Bunny. His light was hidden under a bushel! I share in your sorrow, Todd & Blake. God bless you, Uncle Allan!
