Obituary For Andrew C. Kosmach, Jr.

Born October 5, 1926 to Andrew J. and Bertha (Kohle) Kosmach and passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on December 23, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mildred D. (Goritz), and children Suzanne, BK, Andrew III (Trish), Linda (Michael) Hirsh, Lori (Thomas) Merikas, and Eric (Beverly) Kosmach. He is survived by five grandchildren: Megan (Paul) Holencik, Matthew Merikas, Aaron, Joshua, and Isaac Kosmach. Also survived by a brother Paul L. (the late Dorothy) Kosmach, the late Dorothy Craig, Raymond (Ruthie), Ruth (William) Hildabidle and several nieces and nephews.

Andrew was a US Army paratrooper during WWII and was a retired foreman in the fabrication and metal working industry. He brought a sense of quality craftsmanship to everything he did. He was gifted with mechanical and woodworking abilities. He especially loved making and fixing things and was called upon many times for handyman help from his less-inclined daughters. It seemed that the tougher the problem, the more he loved and succeeded in the challenge. He was a great role model for doing every job completely and right; no shortcuts! He was an avid organic gardener, spending winters nurturing plants in a homemade basement greenhouse and transplanting them in the spring. He spent hours every growing season outside in his carefully tended backyard vegetable garden. During his last few years, he relaxed by sitting on the swing in the screened-in porch, working his Word Search puzzle books.

Precision and meticulous planning were his hallmarks. He also had a strong dedication to his Catholic faith, to his family and to any projects he started. He was devoted to his wife, Mildred, the love of his life. He was gentle-hearted, thoughtful, and caring. He taught his children thoroughness and how to take pride in a job well done. He had a great sense of humor, often expressed via short, witty comments. He leaves behind a legacy of self-sacrifice, resourcefulness, and kindness. Visitation will be private. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at St. Thomas More Church, 126 Fort Couch Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15241. Arrangements handled by John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227.
