Obituary For Andy Johanson

Age 52, passed peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023 of Pittsburgh.
Loving son of Barbara and the late Alex Johanson; caring and beloved brother of Samantha (David) Zeiders and Nate Johanson. Loving, crazy uncle and mentor to Dylyn, Logan and Zander (Zander-Mander) and his long-time friend, Stephanie.

Andy was an amazingly talented, magical, thoughtful artist, musician, and photographer. Much of which was raw natural talent that was self-taught. His kindness, humbleness, wit, and humor made him loved by so many. He grew up with a love of making Super 8 Star Wars home movies, scoring soundtracks, and creating music on his keyboard.

In the late 80s and into the 90s he was an important member of the Pittsburgh music scene writing, composing, and playing songs. Most notably he shared the stage with Thickhead Grin, as well as a band named Holden Caufield.

A love of seeing life through a lens and a natural eye for beauty and art launched his photography career. His acclamations include being published in The NY Times, privately photographing the White House, and a multitude of notable locations around the world. He had a view of the world through his lens, which was a gift to him and everyone who sat in front of his camera or who looked at his portraits.

Andy would want everyone to continue to laugh, love, appreciate life, and spread kindness. Family suggests donating to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree in Andy's honor at arborday.org.

Arrangements were handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227.

Andy was my best friend from kindergarten until I moved away to Florida in 6th grade. We made those Super 8 Star Wars movies together. We did so much together from building go carts to going to Cub Scouts. Andy was so much fun to be around for all those years. I'll miss him and I'll always remember him as being my best childhood friend!!!

I spent a lot of time with Andy in our early twenties just enjoying being young. We just hung out with other people in our group and had fun. I'm sorry that he is gone. John Winberg
