Obituary For Armella "Mell" Schlernitzauer

March 2, 1928 - December 21, 2018

Schlernitzauer, Armella "Mell" Of Whitehall, passed into the arms of her Lord on Friday, December 21, 2018.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Schlernitzauer; stepmother of Robert, Jr.; daughter of the late Michael and Angela Garfold; sister of the late Albert (Clara), Huey, Victor (Marge), Alfred (Stella), Elizabeth (Rocco) Very, Rose (Nicholas) Cupido, Grace (Joseph) Shomo and Marie Garfold; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mell began her career as bookkeeper in the beauty shop of her late sister, Marie, at Caste Village, and continued to be a vital and recognized part of that community up until her death. She kept many friendships throughout the years and helped to initiate the Senior Academy Program of Baldwin-Whitehall. This program was well received and appreciated by the community. She was an active member of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, and was a long time volunteer for The Society of St. Vincent DePaul. Her life was full of prayer, love, fun, and laughter. Mell will always be remembered for her good humor, her caring nature, and generosity to all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Family and friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Thursday, December 27, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of The Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church, 5200 Greenridge Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.

    I saw mell every week at bingo. Loved that lady and I hope to get to her age and enjoy life like she did. I will miss saying good night mell on Thursdays.
