Obituary For Charles Franklin Lanks, Sr.

Lanks, Charles Franklin, Sr.

Charles Sr. left this earth at the age of 92 on Angel wings. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Irene, daughter Candi (Fred Blackhurst) of Franklin Pa, son Charles “Chip” Lanks Jr, (Lynda) of McMurray, Pa and daughter Cynthia Muehlbauer (Cynthia Aguilar) of Bethel Park, PA. Chuck had 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, a sister, brother and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII on a mine sweeper in the South Pacific. He was a teacher at Dormont/Keystone Oaks High School, Principal at Thomas Jefferson High School, retired from the Mon Valley School for Exceptional Children. He was a dean at Duquesne University Graduate School. Chuck earned his undergraduate degree from Lock Haven University and advanced degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. Chuck loved spending time with his wife, children, family and friends. He loved traveling to warm weather locations, and playing cards. He was a long time Steeler ticket holder. Due to the current public health crisis, visitation and funeral services will be held privately . Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA, with full military honors. There will be a memorial in St. Peters Episcopal Church in 2021 to celebrate Chuck's life with family and friends followed by "good eats", something that Chuck lived to do. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Peters Episcopal Church, 4048 Brownsville Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15227.
