Obituary For Dale Carl Bachman

Of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away on October 11, 2022 at home surrounded by family.

He was born to Mabel and August Bachman on January 24, 1928 in Butler, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Butler High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Thiel College. Dale served in the Army for 2 tours during the Korean War. He married Dolly Bachman, loving wife, in 1950 and they raised their family in Pleasant Hills, fully absorbed in local school and sporting activities. Dale spent his early working years at Country Belle Cooperative Dairy. Dale moved mid-career to help build the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania, from which he retired in 1996. Dale is survived by his five children, Gary Bachman and spouse Trina, Karen Mashburn, Keith Bachman and spouse Darlene, Susan Thornton, Brian Bachman and spouse Jan, as well as twelve beloved grandchildren: Tracey Bachman, Amy and Brandon Zerante, Lindsay and Toug Plilar, Stephanie Mashburn, Derrick Bachman, Becca Bachman, Carly Bachman, Kimmy Bachman, Benjamin Thornton, Sarah Thornton, Grace Bachman, Emma Bachman; and three beloved great grandchildren: JD Plilar, Elise Plilar and Sam Zerante. He is also survived by a sister, Laura Johnson, a brother, Jim Bachman and predeceased by his older sister Muriel and brothers Clifford and Gordon. Dale was a long time active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Brentwood, where he was a leader and generous supporter of his church and their ministries. Dale and Dolly were both instrumental in the building of a strong Christian faith in all of their children. Dale was known for his love of family, strong faith, and ability to make every one of his children, grand and great grandchildren feel special and loved. He was an avid sportsman and was never happier than when hunting, fishing, working in his beautiful gardens, or going to TJ football games unless, of course, it was when he got to spend time with his grandchildren. Friends and family will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service in the chapel at noon. The family requests donations in support of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in lieu of sending flowers.
