Daniel "Dan" David Finnegan Age 71 of Pittsburgh, passed away on May 16, 2025 after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Survived by his son Daniel Finnegan (Jr); daughter-in-law Beth (Holzhauer) Finnegan; sister-in-law Diane (DeFilippo) Finnegan; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his wife Dawn (Turney) Finnegan; brother Robert Maras Finnegan and parents Robert and Amelia (Maras) Finnegan. Born on March 26, 1954, in Pittsburgh PA, Dan was a 1972 graduate of South Catholic High School and a 1976 graduate of Penn State University where he studied accounting. For the entire 35 years of his professional career, Dan worked tirelessly and fastidiously at Consol Energy where he made many friendships that are still strong to this day. Playing a round of golf with his work buddies, cheering on his Pittsburgh Penguins and volunteering at Animal Friends where he proudly achieved the most prestigious tier of “cat cuddler” were some of the many things that Dan enjoyed. Most importantly, though, Dan was resolutely devoted to his faith and family. As a life-long Roman Catholic, Dan’s faith is what guided him through many of the more recent hardships he faced. Shortly after retiring from Consol Energy, Dan took up an unexpected new job as primary caregiver for his wife who had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s). For over three years until her passing, Dan loyally and tenaciously cared for her extensive needs. As she lost her ability to speak and move, he never lost his faith. More recently, and despite his own health problems, Dan remained steadfast in his devotion to his ailing mother. As a regular visitor to the memory unit at Concordia of South Hills where his mother resided, it was not unusual to see Dan bringing in treats for the other residents. Even as his health began to fail, Dan would still arrange daily Facetime calls with his mother from his hospital bed. He so loved his mother that when she passed at the ripe old age of 101, he followed her just 13 days later. Friends and family will be received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Wednesday morning at 11:00, followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St.Teresa of Kolkata Parish, Church of the Resurrection 1100 Creedmoor Ave, Pittsburgh, 15226 at 12:00 P.M.
