Obituary For Darwyn "Big" Steinert

Darwyn "Big" Steinert, age 93, on Monday, July 27, 2026, of Overbrook.

Beloved husband of the late Mary Therese (Waters) Steinert; loving father of Donald (Lori) Steinert, Mary Catherine (Moose) Klee, Kelly (Dr. John) Campbell, Kimberly (Wally) Kuchta and Gregory (Shelly) Steinert; devoted Bup of Marc (Nicole), Patrick, Gregory Jr., Brian (Jamie), Nicholas, Ashley, Aaron, Reagan and Izzy; great-grandfather of Rileigh and Marc; brother of Deborah Steinert, the late Donald, the late Dennis, and his twin, the late Deryl "Little" (Betty) Steinert; son of the late John Charles Steinert and the late Martha Jane (Ruhl) Steinert. Also survived by nieces and nephews and will be missed by his faithful companion, Bindi. Big was a member of the Clairton Sportsmen's Club and proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, Nativity Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh at https://humaneanimalrescue.org/ Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com

    Big & I both worked at Western Electric Co starting in 1955. We never tired of the many stories that were shared from that experience. Visiting him at home almost required a time limit be set, as one story led to another. He will be greatly missed.

    Big, what a truly fitting name because that is how he lived his life. He had "big" love for his family, friends, Marine Corps, animals, nature and so much more. He had a "big" work ethic for his job, helping friends and family, caring for his home, his animals, and til the end nature around him. He will be missed "big"!

    Mr. Steinert was a great role model since I was a child, that's 56 years ago lol. I will miss seeing him. I truly appreciate his service to the protection of this country.
