Obituary For David H. Barker

Age 82, of Whitehall, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Beloved husband of 49 years to Donna J. (Bobek); loving father of David J. (Jennifer), Daniel E. and Dale A. (Jessica); terrific "Pap" to Alexander, Samantha, Michael, Josie, Caleb and Shiloh; brother of the late James J. Barker of Rhode Island. Also survived by nieces, nephews and their families from Massachusetts and Pittsburgh.

David grew up in Brookline, PA and went on to join the Air Force where he served as courier during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. David met the love of his life in 1974, and after getting married and raising three sons, he became involved in scouting where he served in various positions before he went on to become a Scoutmaster of Troop 228 in Bethel Park for 14 years.

He was a very devoted man to his church, scouting, and friends. But his family is where his heart was, and he spoke of how blessed he was to have all of them in his life. He cherished the time he had with each of them. He would say of all the things he ever did in life, the best one was being a Pap.

David loved talking to people, helping them in any way he could, and loved being part of the Veteran's Breakfast Club that met in Gianna Vias Restaurant on Thursday mornings.

Friends and family will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 1-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel.
