Obituary For David J. Gmys

Age 76, of Baldwin Boro, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Beloved husband of 50 years to Cecilia A. (Kaduk) Gmys; loving father of David M. (Christine), Daniel (Frances "Liz" Wilkinson) and Derek Gmys; caring grandfather of Gavin Gmys; son of the late Walter and Clara (Matuszak) Gmys; brother of the late Bernard, Thomas, Donald and Richard Gmys. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. David served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for over 40 years for Matthews International as a machinist and was a lifelong "Pittsburgher". Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Germaine Church at 10:00 a.m.

    My sincere condolences to the family. David was my age and my favorite memory of him was climbing the side rails of the incline by grandma Matuszaks house. We were very young at the time. Too young to realize the danger. I also remember running in between Aunt Clara's house and next door. We got reprimanded a lot but we had fun. That was many, many years ago. RIP David. 🙏
