David William McClory

Obituary For David William McClory

Age 73, of Pittsburgh, passed peacefully at home on March 10, 2021, surrounded by his family in hospice care.

Born to William and Mary Elizabeth McClory, David was a loyal friend to many. He was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War (1966-1968). He was a member of the “Automatic Eighth”, 7th Battalion 8th Artillery during the Tet Offensive. Upon returning, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2020. An avid golfer, David finally scored the elusive hole-in-one at Mystic Rock on September 20, 2014. He was a Certified Golf Teaching Professional and spent several years as the head instructor for The First Tee of Pittsburgh. He began golfing at 12 years old and particularly enjoyed sharing his love of the game with children and young adults. David made friends anywhere he went and touched many lives with his generosity. If he knew you, you were family. His sense of humor was one-of-a-kind and he always had a story to tell. He was a proud friend of Bill W. for over 33 years. David is survived by his wife Linda (McWilliams), son Shawn (Megan), and daughter Michelle; granddaughters, Amanda (Taylor), Rosemarie (Matthew), Sara, Jayna, and Matilda; and his grandson, Brett (Alex). His greatest joy was his great-granddaughter, Lyra. He is also survived by his sister, Judy, and many nieces and nephews. Service and interment will be private. Arrangements made by John F. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The First Tee of Pittsburgh, 5370 Schenley Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15217 or the Baldwin High School Golf Team, Attn: Athletic Director, 4653 Clairton Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236.

    Dave gave me both humor and humility when he'd say, "Jill and I both were at CMU back in the day. I worked but she was a professor". That's gotten a few more laughs when I've repeated it in recent days. And .. it always gave me peace and acceptance on my life. Jill Wellman
