Obituary For Deborah A. Dennick-Ream

Age 70, of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Beloved wife of 47 years Zane Dennick-Ream; loving mother of John (Alicia) Dennick-Ream and Carrie (Stephen) Lauso; proud gramma of Madeline, Amelia, Grace, Luca and Olivia. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at First Bethel United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m.

Deborah grew up in Waltz Mill, Westmoreland County. She received a BA from Penn State (1973) and an MDiv and MA from United Theological Seminary (1977). In 1978, Deborah was commissioned a Deaconess, consecrated as a Diaconal Minister, and certified as a Director of Christian Education in the United Methodist Church. Later, she was certified as a Minister of Christian Education (1996) and ordained to the order of Deacon (1998) in the United Methodist Church. Although at various times she has served in pastoral ministry and ministries to seniors, women, and Native Americans, most of her career Deborah served her true passion in ministering to young children and their families. For more than 20 years that ministry was through King School Kids child care center and to the children of First Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethel Park, PA. Deborah retired in 2020.

Memorial donations in Deborah’s name may be made to King School Kids, 5901 Library Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102.

Dear Zane, John and Carrie (plus grandkids of course)! How could we share just "a memory"? We have so many! Secret Santa the year my dad died, every moment of every day she was with Jordan, the women's retreat (when I used her sewing scissors very casually and apparently inappropriately), the time she talked to me about something Jordan (age five) shared in confidence so I could process it, her words of wisdom when Jordan escaped, her laughter, her everything. Dave has always said that Deb is one of his favorite people and Jordan and I agree. Sending love to you all. Her memory will be an incredible blessing to us all! Jane Black, Dave and Jordan Cummings

Deb was a marvelously caring and courageous woman. She could be as fierce in confronting injustice as she was tender in caring for children. She was a gift for which I am deeply grateful. Ralph Watkins Silver Spring, Maryland
