Of Scott Township, passed away on February 10, 2025. She will be sorely missed by her husband, family and friends, who will remember her zest for life, her excitement for their lives and families, her laughs and her caring nature. Her youthful outlook made her seem much younger than her 93 years. She was born and raised in Carrick and Whitehall by her parents, Irene and Henry Werner, and beloved sister, Shirley Shorr, who predeceased her. She graduated from Baldwin Whitehall High School in 1949, where she was a cheerleader, an officer in the Student Senate, editor of the high school newspaper, a member of the chorus and numerous other clubs. She loved to ice skate and dance. Later in life, she liked telling her grandchildren how quickly her “card” filled up. After graduation she worked as a secretary for Eastern Gas and Fuel, a division of Koppers. In 1952 she married John William Viehman from nearby Brentwood High School, a Pitt graduate and then a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps. They began married life at Topsail Beach in North Carolina before John was deployed to Korea for a year. When he returned they settled in the South Hills and raised their family in South Park and Bethel Park, where she was active in women’s clubs and community organizations. She was a long-time volunteer at the Bethel Park Library and St. Clair Hospital. For many years they vacationed at Wildwood and Cape May, NJ and enjoyed vacation homes at Conneaut Lake and Hutchinson Island, Florida. In 2009 they moved to Providence Point in Scott Township, where her friendly nature and interest in others made them many new friends. Her lifelong knack for creating a beautiful home, shopping for meaningful gifts, and welcoming others to her table continued into her nineties. She and John celebrated 72 years of marriage this past October. She is survived by her husband, John Viehman, sons David (Elsie) and Mark (Dolores), and daughter Lori Dowling (Tom), as well as six grandchildren: Sara Diehl (Chris), Alex Viehman (Rachael), Mark Viehman (Lynn), Chelsea Dowling, Jameson Dowling, and Jessica Viehman. She delighted in knowing and keeping up with each of her seven great-grandchildren: Lila, Gaby, Clara, Robbie, James, Eliana and Micah. A Memorial Service will be held at Providence Point Chapel (500 Providence Point Blvd, Pittsburgh, 15243) on March 8, 2025 at 12 noon, followed by a reception and light luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna’s memory may be made to The Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (PO Box 9024, Pittsburgh 15224) or a charity of your choice. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.
