Obituary For Dorothy Dolores (Miller) Schaich

Of Baldwin Borough, much-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother left this world for her heavenly home on Monday, October 7, 2024. Born on October 29, 1926, Dorothy (also affectionately called Dolly) lived a life dedicated to family and faith.

Dorothy was the fourth of six children of the late Peter and Sophie Miller. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings, Edward Miller, Irene Pesanka, Stella Shannon, Peter Miller, and Ernest Miller.

Married to Bob in 1949 for forty-five years (until his passing in 1994), Dorothy was a devoted wife, and loving mother of six children: Kathy (Wayne) Eisel, Bev (Bob) Svehlak, Bill (Amy) Schaich, Deb (Rick) Rua, Dave (Mary Beth) Schaich, and Rick (Paula) Schaich. She was the beloved grandmother of thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Schenley High School, Dorothy worked at Bell Telephone and at her dad's photo shop in Squirrel Hill. Later in life, when her children were grown, she worked at Three Rivers Stadium and PNC Park. Dorothy also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and at the Red Door Ministry downtown, making and distributing lunches and clothing to those in need.

Dorothy had many interests: painting gardening, knitting, quilting, music, and Scrabble, to name a few. A parishioner of St. Albert the Great Parish for sixty years, Dorothy loved her Catholic faith and was known to leave prayer cards on the shelves at the grocery store!

She has always been selfless, independent, and a cherished role model for her children. To say that she will be deeply missed is an understatement.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m.
