Obituary For Dorothy M. (Zimmer) Bachner

Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy M. (Zimmer) Bachner passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021.

She was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Hirsch) Zimmer. Dorothy was married for 50 years to her loving, late husband Ambrose Bachner. Preceding her in death were her brother, Paul Zimmer and cherished sisters, Ruth Kowalski (the late Carl) and Anna Mae Pferdehirt (Harry "Bud"). Also waiting for her in Heaven were three grandchildren, James, Ambrose and Gabriella Banze. Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Carol (Bob) Meador, Susan (Rich) Muse and Nancy (Jim) Banze and grandchildren, Brian (Susan) Meador, Michael (Yilka) Meador, Amy (Aaron) Elsey, Erin (Brian) Fallon, Lauren (Russ) Cready, Meghan (Joseph) Smith, Alyssa and Jacob Banze and eleven great-grandchildren. She will also be dearly missed by several much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins who cared for and doted on her especially in her last few years. Dorothy was a wonderful hostess who loved to bake and cook. To those that knew her, she was famous for her potato salad, stuffing and baked goodies. She was also devoted to her church and was a member of The Women's Guild/Christian Mothers at St. Wendelin Church (now known as part of Blessed Trinity Parish). Her friends will remember her as a kind, thoughtful and giving person as well as a skilled card player. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Dorothy's name to St. Paul of the Cross Monastery, 148 Monastery Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.

    Joanne and I are so sorry we were away during Dorothy's funeral and were unable to visit the funeral home or attend the funeral mass. Having known Sue and Rich Muse for nearly 50 years, we shared may special family events with the Muses, including Dorothy. Our children grew up together when we were next door neighbors. We have many fond memories of Dorothy and she was a very special lady who will be sadly missed. We have made a $100.00 contribution to St. Paul of the Cross Monastery in Dorothy's honor.     Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Thoughts and prayers to the family during this time of grieving. It was a honor to have met Mrs. Bachner. She was very sweet and kind.
