Obituary For Dorothy (Seidel) Dahm

Age 91, of Baldwin Borough, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2020 with as much grace as she lived her life.

Dot was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late J. Richard Dahm - the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Amelia Seidel and brothers, Jacob and William Seidel. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mike (Paula), Steve, and Lauren (Jim) Snyder; her grandchildren: Brian (Julia) Dahm, Beth (Ben) Ballard, Crystal Dahm, and Jessica, Matthew, and Marielle Snyder; and 3 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Dale, and Brooke. Also surviving are her brother, Charles Seidel and sister, Marilyn Seidel, a Sister of Divine Providence, and many nieces and nephews. Dot was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Gigi who unconditionally loved her family above all else. A long-time member of St. Albert the Great parish and The Woman’s Club of Baldwin Borough, she enjoyed tennis, bowling, and playing 500 with many very dear friends over the years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially beach vacations which combined her love of the ocean with those she loved most. Dot was known for her delicious nut rolls and kiffels which she lovingly shared with family and friends. She was comforted in knowing that her grandchildren will now keep that tradition alive for years to come. Dot lived her life selflessly and honorably, with grace and humility. Her legacy of love will live forever in our hearts. She will be deeply missed but we are comforted knowing she now rests with her husband amidst her beloved angels. Family extends special thanks to the staff of Sunrise Senior Living of Upper St. Clair and Gateway Hospice who provided Dot with loving and compassionate care. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will be held privately. The family will be respecting strict adherence to Covid-19 safeguards. Efforts to minimize infection risk are understood and appreciated. Your prayers will be heard from afar if that is what is most comfortable for you. In lieu of flowers, Dot requested contributions to: Sisters of Divine Providence Retirement Residence Fund, 9000 Babcock Boulevard, Allison Park, PA 15101.

    Dear Mike and Steve and Laurie, I have been surprised over the past few days about the flood of memories that keep coming to me about your mother- from the most recent memory of talking to her when our mother died to way back when I was a little girl playing at your house. It was your mother that I had to go to when at age 6 I walked to the candy store without telling my Mom. Guess my Mom alerted the neighborhood and made me tell some of them when I returned that I was not lost. Your Mom listened patiently to 6 -year- old me wonder how my Mom could be so mad at me if she was so happy to see me! Laurie- I remember hours and hours of playing big B dolls or little B dolls (baby dolls or Barbie dolls) and your Mom letting us set up all over the living room. I even remember using old banana split containers from your grandparents as Barbie bathtubs! Your Mom just stepped around our sprawl. And I remember her letting me be your guest at Towerview swimming pool. I especially remember riding back home one time with you all and us singing "opera". I have often thought back at how irritating we must have sounded.....but your Mother never said a word! So I think your Mother is the last of the old guard from the neighborhood. It is always sad to say good bye to those we love, even though we know they cannot live forever. It is hard to dismantle a house that is so full of memories. But how blessed we were to have had the wonderful childhoods that we had and the wonderful parents like your Mom who truly formed the village that raised us. May she rest in peace.

    I miss seeing Dot every Friday for her hairdo. I will always remember her as a kind woman with a great sense of humor,and a sharp dresser. She also had a great love for her family and was especially proud of the great grand babies . I truly enjoyed our Friday afternoon chats and will miss her greatly . Love and prayers Marcy Schugg

    Although I have only known Dot since her grandson Brian has courted and married my daughter Julia, she has touched my life with her friendliness and familial love. I am sure she has earned her wings and is at peace with her Savior angels and predecessors. Love you Dot.
