Of Whitehall, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday , December 27 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 5th 1937 to the late Dr. Francis E. and Evelyn Thompson Wible, formerly of Pleasant Hills. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and spouse of 65 years Barbara Mortson Wible, whom he married July 11, 1959. He was the loving father of Dr. Russell (Anne) Wible, David (Monica) Wible, and Sharon Lee (Richard) Wible Mankovich. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rachel, Thomas, Marston, Arden, Matthew and Ryan, his brother, Robert (Ginnie) Wible as well as four nephews and their families. Dr. Wible was a graduate of Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, becoming a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated magna cum laude (Chem Major) in 1958. This was followed by a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962, where he was inducted into Phi Rho Sigma and an internship at St. Margaret’s Hospital (formerly in Lawrenceville). He volunteered for military service and served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps attached to the former MCAS El Toro, CA air base from 1963-1965. In 1965, he entered residency in anesthesia at Mercy Hospital through 1967. He then completed a critical care fellowship with the late Dr. Peter Safar. Upon completion of his training, he joined Pittsburgh Anesthesia Associates, serving as an attending anesthesiologist, also specializing in critical care, at several Pittsburgh area hospitals, most notably, Mercy Hospital and St. Clair Hospital, until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the American Board of Anesthesiology, American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Allegheny County Medical Society, and served as president of the Western Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists. His devotion to medicine was only surpassed by his love and admiration for his family. Outside of medicine, Dr. Wible was a proud Mason, belonging to Dallas Lodge No. 231 F. & A.M. of Pennsylvania, Scottish Rite- Valley of Pittsburgh, and the Syria Shrine - 32°. He was also a life member of the Teutonia Männerchor. Among his many talents, he had an “ear” for music and played the piano, accordion, ukulele, and organ (his concerts were legendary). He held a private pilot’s license and was certified in SCUBA diving. Outdoor activities were his favorite pursuits, most notably power boating, sailing (racing with his children), water skiing and alpine skiing. He deeply enjoyed spending time with close friends and family at Deep Creek Lake and Naples, FL. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 4 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be private in West Andover, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org, or to the medical charity of choice.
