Battista, Edward G. "Pappy", age 73, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and after a courageous battle with Parkinson's, on Monday, July 26, 2021, of Brentwood, formerly of Monessen. Beloved husband of 49 years to Linda A. (Powell) Battista; loving father of Dan (Deena) Battista and Amy (Jim) Farrell; proud pappy of Amara, Daniel, Abby, Aidan, Dawson and Emma; son of the late Daniel and Rose DiBattista; brother of John, Antoinette and Nunsio; son-in-law of the late Butch and Sis Powell; brother-in-law of Edward (Peggy) Powell, Robert Alan (Michele) Powell, John (Cheryl) Powell and Cathy (John) Jones. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ed served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom for a total of 34 years and retired from the 911th AirLift Wing. He was a Pittsburgh sports fan and a bourbon connoisseur. Ed's biggest joy was watching his grandchildren's sporting events. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:45 with Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Sylvester Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Brentwood Food Pantry, 3725 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.
