Edward Lutz Obituary

Edward J. Lutz, age 83, of Baldwin, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at home. He was the founder and owner of Cold Comp in Pittsburgh and founder of the first computerized typesetting business in Pittsburgh in 1968. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church in Baldwin and served with the Army National Guard. Born June 24, 1941, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Charles and Agnes (Obringer) Lutz. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynn A. (Jones) Lutz; daughter, Lori Auman of Jefferson Hills; sons, Michael (Heather) Lutz of Pleasant Hills and Matthew Lutz of Seven Fields; grandchildren, Cole, Preston and Ava Lutz, Brady and Laney Auman, and Kennedy and Tessa Lutz; brothers, Raymond (Mary Lou) Lutz of Baldwin and David (Janice) Lutz of Castle Shannon; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Katchmar and Charles Lutz. Fast Eddie embodied the definition of what it means to be a family man. He and Lynn never missed any of their grandkids’ sporting events or activities. Ed enjoyed spending time at the family farm, which he affectionately called Green Acres. He lovingly referred to his wife of 60 years as “my Bride”, who was and always will be his rock. A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 3-8 PM at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Albert the Great Church, Baldwin with Rev. Stephen A. Kresak officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Ed would prefer that his family and friends make a donation in his name to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Just learned of your loss. We've only known Ed for the last 8 years since we moved in next door to he and Lynn in Kelly Greens. I've never met a kinder, gentler man, a family man, and a true man of God. He was always the first to lend a hand to any project, and always had the tools! He left an indelible mark in our hearts in such a short period of time... Rest in Peace Ed... Jim and Kathy Spratte

One of the greatest men I've know, Ed will be sorely missed. But I know where he's gone and that he will be watching over all of us here on Earth. Gos has big plans for him I'm sure. So very glad I got to spend some time with him and Lynn a couple months ago. Love and Prayers to you and your family Lynn! ❤️🙏🏻😘

I was one of countless customers who made Ed crazy with impossible requests for expdited service, improperly formatted data files, and endless pleadings for do-overs. No matter how unreasonable the request, Ed was unflappably calm, accomodating and gracious. Never walk past te Cold Comp location on Penn Avenue without thinking of ow lucky all of us the repro business downtown were to have access to such a singularly talented guy. Sincerest sympahy to his family -- and many thanks for allowing him to stay late on all those nights taking care of customers who must have made him crazy!

Growing up on Churchview Avenue in Baldwin, the Lutz family were our next door neighbors and we could not have wished for better neighbors. I have many fond memories of them. Just like Eddie, the entire family was truly a class act. Charlie, the father, and my father, Jack, were best friends. Over the years I've run into Eddie and his wife, Lynn, periodically and they were always a very friendly and engaging couple. My wife, Karen, and I were fortunate to see them a few times during this past Lenten season and even enjoyed lunch together. Eddie told us of the long battle that he fought with cancer and now he is at rest with the Lord. May you rest in peace Eddie.

I got to have the pleasure of doing some electrical work for Ed and Lynn at "Green Acres ". Ed was a kind and giving man, when I told him what he owed me for the work that I had completed he told me, "That's not enough money for what you did", and insisted on paying me more. Thank you Ed for being so kind and good hearted may you rest in peace.
