Obituary For Edward J. Uranker

July 24, 1931 - October 6, 2015 Uranker, Edward James Born July 24, 1931, enjoyed life to the full with morning coffees, traveling, sports and playing golf and trips to casinos. He exited peacefully on October 6, 2015 and will be dearly missed.

Ed loved his family sharing his warm, ever-present humor, smiles, pranks and jokes. His late parents, Peter Uranker and Mary (Pozar), raised him in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Lawrenceville with his six predeceased siblings, Rudy, Mary and Tony Oft and Peter, Louise and Albert Uranker. Ed had a great zest for living. He raised his four children with his late wife Joan (Wyborski). Together the family enjoyed camping trips. Ed often played golf with his sons Paul (Carol Merz) and Raymond (Joyce McLeary). He frequently vacationed with his daughters Jayne (Wayne Seidel) and Alice Ernst. He will be sorely missed by his current wife Nancy (Wondrach) who met Ed while working in his Parish as a Social Minister. They were blessed with almost 17 years of laughter and annual trips to CT, NY, NC and FL to visit Nancy's family and friends. His eleven grandchildren, Lauren Uranker, Karen (Jim) Smearman, Joanne, Frances and Amelia Seidel, Fallon, Dillon and Lindsey Uranker, Madison, Paige and Sydney Ernst and one great-grandson, Blake Smearman, were lucky to have him present for basketball, soccer and volleyball games, cheerleading, musicals, band, plays, recitals, birthdays, holidays and a recent wedding. Ed began his work experience as an apprentice at Mesta Machine Shop in West Homestead. He worked his way up the employment ladder (that he probably built himself) working as a research machinist at U.S. Steel and the Bureau of Mines until his retirement. His Catholic roots were always a priority for Ed from his original Parish of St. Augustine to St. Albert the Great, where he was a founding member, Eucharistic Minister, a fixture in the Pepsi truck at the Parish Festival, and perhaps more notoriously as "Coach" of the girls Basketball team in the 1970's. In recent years he became a member of St. Sylvester Parish. We will celebrate Ed's life at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Thursday from 6-8 p.m and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Saturday morning at 9:15. The Mass of Resurrection will be offered at St. Sylvester Parish, 3754 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood, PA 15227 on Saturday at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute at Jefferson where Ed received compassionate and loving care by a tremendous staff, and life enhancing treatment. Send donations to Design Center, 247 Morewood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. As Ed would have said at a time like this, "We love ya, baby!", and we will greatly miss you.

Sorry to hear about Ed, Nancy. When we played golf in the old league, I always remember his words on the last hole, "this is our last chance to beat the other couple". He was great guy.
