Obituary For Edward M. Zebert

Age 78, of South Park, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at home with his wife.

He was born on August 4, 1944, to the late Edward and Dolores (Steinmetz) Zebert in Pittsburgh. He attended St. Valentines Catholic School and South Catholic High School. After high school, he went on to serve in the Navy Reserves prior to attending Duquesne University, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. His clever and creative mind earned him a place at Harvard University where he sharpened his marketing acumen, which enabled him to enjoy a long successful career as a senior executive at the top advertising agencies in Pittsburgh. Once retired, he and his son Brian became partners in their own marketing agency, where they shared 20 years of great success.

After graduating from Duquesne, he married the love of his life, Cheryl Augenstein, and they shared a beautiful 55 years of marriage. He is survived by daughters Elisa (Daniel) Moore, Michele Zebert Zvoch, and son Brian (Lorena) Zebert. He was lovingly called “Poppy” by his two grand-daughters Olivia and Julia, and “Pap” by grandchildren Ethan, Andrew, Ava and Michael. He was the oldest of 4 brothers, David, Michael (Jan), and preceded in death by Steven (Louann). He was also brother-in-law of Ronald Augenstein, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. His family filled his life with great joy. He looked forward to spending summer vacations with them at the beach. His weekends were spent gardening and his yard and deck were overflowing with beautiful plants and flowers. He prided himself in knowing the botanical names and species of each, a passion passed down from his father-in-law. Ed was an avid golfer and could be found on the course all seasons, enjoying the game with his son, sons-in-law and brothers. Music also played a large role in his life, and after high school he and four of his friends started a Doo Wop band called “The Apollos”. They released a single and played locally around Pittsburgh. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Edward, Monday April 10, 2023, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227. Funeral prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Laboure Parish, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 6470 Library Road, South Park, PA 15129. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on behalf of his granddaughter Ava Zebert. www.lls.org.
