Obituary For Eileen M. Assad Bissell

Bissell, Eileen Barnes Assad, the 87-year-old eternal optimistic and world traveler, passed away on Sept. 19, leaving behind six loving sons and a slew of other caring family members. This includes 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother James White and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth White and sister Evelyn Sernick. A North Side native who lived most of her adult life in the South Hills, Eileen spent more than five decades as a Stanley Home Products representative. This remarkable woman is survived by her sons David (Diana), Thomas, aka Tim (Judy), Paul (Cindy), Matthew, Michael (Sharon) and James, aka Jason. Eileen outlived two husbands, Thomas E. Assad and Robert Bissell. Many thanks to the Bissell family who loved and comforted her during her 18 years of marriage to Bob, whose three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren embraced Eileen as one of their own in the Bissell clan. Eileen traveled throughout the country and other parts of the world with her favorite destinations being Italy (5 visits) and many trips to southern California where her son Paul lives. She also taught CCD for many years out of the goodness of her heart. The seasonal Holiday parties she hosted for family and friends, usually the first Saturday after Christmas, were legendary. She was also the glue that kept the Assad boys together. She often brought the family together by hosting trips to the beach and the mountains. A special thanks goes to Roseanne and her wonderful staff at the Oakleaf Personal Care Home which was her home for three years. They made sure Eileen's final years were lived in safety and comfort. Family and friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Germaine Church at 10:00 a.m. Due to the current health crisis, masks and social distancing guidelines must be adhered to. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Pittsburgh Symphony, 600 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com.
