Ella Mae D. Held, age 100, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020. She was born June 28, 1920 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Windhager) Dittmer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bernard Held, a grandson Mark Freund and a brother Henry Dittmer. Ella Mae is survived by her four children Barbara (Wayne) Freund, Gregory B. (Angela) Held, Jeffrey D. (Barbara) Held and Marsha (Leo) Episcopo, eight grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren. Ella Mae enjoyed spending weekends in Pymatuning with her family and tending to a large garden of fruits and vegetables at the cottage built by her husband. She also enjoyed watching Pittsburgh sports in her free time. Ella Mae was a founding member and an active volunteer of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of the South Hills. She taught the Senior Confirmation class and was a representative for the LWML organization. Prior to her retirement, she was an Executive Assistant for Kaufmann’s Department Store. Ella Mae's advice for living 100 years was "get through life's ups and downs and everything else is God's will." There will be no visitation. A funeral service for the family will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 418 Maxwell Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. In lieu of flowers family requests donations to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Hand Bell Memorial Fund.
