Elsie Jean Kress Roth, age 91, formerly of Whitehall passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph. Elsie was born on March 4, 1935, to the late George and Mildred Bakey Kress. A lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh area, Elsie built a life centered around family, love, and the comforts of home. Elsie met the love of her life, Edward A. Roth, Jr., while working as an operator at Bell Telephone. The two shared 69 years of marriage before Ed’s passing in October 2025. Together they raised four children and built a family that was Elsie’s greatest joy. Elsie took great pride in being a homemaker and was happiest when her home was filled with family, friends, good food, and laughter. She loved cooking and entertaining, and she was an avid collector of recipes, always on the lookout for something new to try. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting and had a cherished collection of thimbles. Among her more memorable collections was an impressive assortment of cows, a collection that grew over the years, though not entirely by her own choosing. She also appreciated a good glass of wine and the company of those she loved. Elsie is survived by her children Diane (Jim) Frick, Edward Roth, Jeffrey Roth, and Stephen (Bonnie) Roth; her grandchildren Michael Frick, Zachary (Sarah) Roth, Nicholas (Allie) Roth, Elizabeth (Matthew) Grassi, and Kyan Roth; great grandchildren Vera Lagamba, Miles Grassi, and Autumn Roth. In addition to her beloved husband, Ed, Elsie was preceded in death by her sister, Eileen Sill (Rich Masilon). Elsie will be remembered for the home she made, the meals she shared, the traditions she cherished, and the love she gave her family. Her memory will live on in the recipes passed down, the quilts lovingly made, and the countless moments spent together. The family found great comfort in learning that within hours of each other, Elsie and her best friend, Ruth Rhein, passed away. What a joy to know that they journeyed together as they did so many times here on earth. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph personal care unit, especially to nurse Laura. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood, 15227, on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 2-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3109 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood, 15227. Memorials may be made in Elsie’s memory to Concordia Lutheran Church. Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com Contact Us to have your link and message added here.
