March 11, 1919 - March 17, 2018 Napoli, Emma G. (Mastascusa) Peacefully, on March 17, 2018, of Brookline, originally of Hays, 99 years young. Emma was a strong, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by her parents, Pietro and Donata Mastascusa, siblings Angeline (Dominic) Rota, Daniel (Ann), Tilly (Virginia), Albert (Valera), Nancy (Ozzie) Sassaman, Peter, and her beloved husband of 56 years, Rocco Napoli. Survived by daughters Rosemary (Kenneth) Mitro and Rocklynn (Edward) DeMarco, grandchildren Kenwyn (Robert) Leger, Keith Mitro and Alex DeMarco, sister Esther (John) Ravita, sister-in-law Dianne Mastascusa, beloved nephew Danny Mastascusa and many other nieces and nephews. Opening in 1948, Emma and Rocky ran a successful service station in Lawrenceville for almost 40 years. A true partnership, Emma worked alongside Rocky, pumping gas, checking oil, and cleaning windshields, one of the 1st women in Allegheny county to do so. She had passions for cooking fabulous meals for her family on holidays or any occasion, from scratch, ravioli, manicotti, all in her signature sauce. Baking cookies, cookies and more cookies, her freezer was a family legend, plus she never saw a dessert she didn't like. If you came to her home, be prepared for a cup of coffee and a cookie tray to appear. She inherited her passion for growing things from her father and created beautiful gardens wherever she was. She loved experimenting with all different kinds of plants and could resurrect almost any one from death's door. But her favorites were always begonias, all types. Nothing meant more to her than time spent with her grandchildren. She was an unending source of love and support for them and was tremendously proud of them always. Other beloved family members were her dogs, Grief, Max, Maggie, Grover and Zoe, all dachshunds except for Maggie. They filled her life with love, laughter and companionship. Emma was able to spend her last year at home due to wonderful help and care of her Home Instead "Crew." Heartfelt thanks to Wendy, Jane, Judy, Tayona and D especially, but we are grateful to all those who helped her remain at home with her dignity. The family also wants to acknowledge special friends Sue Miske and Maureen Westwood. Emma believed whole heartedly in animal rescue. She adopted from both Animal Friends and Humane Animal Rescue. In lieu of flowers,, donations to either would be gratefully acknowledged. Plant a flower, sit down for a meal with your family, and look forward to everyday, in her memory. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Saturday morning at 8:30.
