Age 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and deep pride in his family. He is survived by his former wife and devoted partner, Maria Koter, whose enduring friendship remained one of the most meaningful relationships of his life. Eric was a loving father to Adrienne Shack (Matt), Alex Koter (Jennifer), and the late Amber Koter, who preceded him in death. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Bayleigh Gauntner, Tyler Gauntner, Lorenzo Puline, Leo Puline, Mason Koter, and Brady Koter, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Scott Koter (Carol) and Randy Koter (Bernie), along with several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Leona Koter of Irwin, Pennsylvania. Eric shared a special bond with his cherished dog, Carly, who passed just days before him. Their connection was a meaningful one, and her loss was felt deeply. Eric built a successful and fulfilling career as a Financial Advisor, retiring from Morgan Stanley in 2018. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built over the years, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Outside of his career, Eric had a passion for golf and spent countless hours on the course doing what he loved. He was also an accomplished musician with a deep love for music, especially classic rock. He enjoyed artists like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, and music was something that brought him both joy and connection throughout his life. In addition, he was a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan, especially of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and carried that hometown pride with him wherever he went. Splitting his time between Florida and Pittsburgh, Eric most cherished the moments spent with his family. He was a constant source of support, encouragement, and pride-always cheering on those he loved. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Eric will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and the quiet strength and pride he carried throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
