Of Pleasant Hills, passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the age of 68. Ernie was born on September 21, 1956 in Ingram, PA. Ernie "Munge" leaves behind his cherished wife, Barbara (Braunegg) of 22 years. Ernie is survived by his mother, Carol Vattimo, and his sister, Susan (Richard) Rodack and his nephews Patrick (Laura) Rodack and Stephen Rodack and his niece, Kristen Rodack. He is preceded in death by his father Ernest Vattimo. After graduating from Montour High School, he began his career at Duquesne Light and retired in 2016 from NRG after 41 years. Ernie was a giver his entire life and was always the first to lend a hand and was involved in his community in many ways. He volunteered at Pleasant Hills Arboretum where he enjoyed the outdoors work. Ernie was essential to the Arbor because he owned a truck. He was a crew member for Vintage Wings, Inc. that restored a 1942 WWII C-53 plane called "Beach City Baby" housed at Franklin Regional Airport. Ernie had traveled with the plane as a load master to air shows. He was also the chair of the Pleasant Hills Zoning Board and was a board of director at Baldwin EMS where he served since 1982. He was a volunteer EMT at Baldwin EMS for many years where he touched many peoples lives with his compassion. Ernie also was a past volunteer fireman at Option, Baldwin #1 and Pleasant Hills Fire Departments. He enjoyed volunteering at the Cloverleaf Food Bank where he had smiles for everyone and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus at Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish. Ernie was special and will be remembered as enjoying life and telling stories. He would be the first at any party and the last to leave. Ernie's wife, Barbara is saddened and heartbroken that "Her Ernie" has passed, but grateful they found each other. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15.
