Age 103, of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026.

She was the daughter of the late Harry Fred Macher and Coletta Massung. She was preceded in death by two loving husbands, Herbert Edwin Ries (1942-1979) and Jack William Ries (1988-2013), beloved daughter Rebecca Lee (John) Ciucci, grandson Alexander Stephen Ciucci, and her seven siblings: Edna Margaret (March), Harry Fred Jr., Howard Maurice, twins Paul Earl and Carl Edward, Margaret Linda (Frederick) and Kenneth Herbert. She is survived by two daughters, Christine Evelyn (Lex Palmer) of Bremerton, WA and Linda Ann Ries (Ira Beckerman) of New Cumberland, PA; four grandchildren, Jacob Herbert Beckerman (Emma Goyette) of Portland, OR, Frieda Evelyn Beckerman (Casey Whieldon) of West Hollywood CA, Father Daniel J. Ciucci of Denver, CO., and Gregory Ciucci of Boulder, CO.

Born on June 13, 1923, and raised in Pittsburgh, she was the proud wife of two US Army WWII combat veterans, a wonderful homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She loved libraries and was an enthusiastic reader, believed in the importance of reading to her children and grandchildren, and fostered a lifelong love of reading in them. She was an excellent cook and known far and wide for her cloverleaf rolls. She was also an award-winning knitter and crocheter. She loved to travel, and with her husband Herb and family, camped and visited many places in the US and Canada. With her second husband, Jack, she took many cruises to Europe and Alaska, even visiting the former USSR.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 on Tuesday, September 29, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.and Wednesday, September 30, at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park, 301 Curry Hollow Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
