Obituary For Florence C. "Boots" Brickner

April 16, 1924 - September 28, 2016

Brickner, Florence C. "Boots" Age 92, on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Pleasant Hills. Married for 48 years to the late Harry A. Brickner; mother of Diane Weil, Marilyn Davies, Bob Brickner, Jim Brickner and Jack Brickner; grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of seven; daughter of the late Florence C. and John M. Carver; sister of the late Bill and John Carver. Florence grew up in Oakland and when married, moved to Pleasant Hills in 1951. Florence was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Church and ran the church babysitting service for over 30 years. She moved to Bradenton Florida in 1994. A private visitation and funeral prayers are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Germaine Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, immediately followed by burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

    As a family friend, I have known Florence for over 40 years. She lived 2 doors down from my father in Bradenton, FL. My children even called her "Nana". She was well known in the condo complex as she walked every morning and visited with everyone. My family and I will miss her.

    As a student I used to help Mrs. Brickner at the church nursery. She was a wonderful person, always upbeat, and filled with hilarious stories and tales of helpful wisdom. She taught us a lot about children and how to be a boss. I haven't seen her in years but I still feel so sad to hear of her passing.
